This program is with children 12–18 for three weeks of intensive immersion. The teaching is mostly done in the morning. Students stay for lunch at the school with fun activities or outings in the afternoon. Volunteers will stay about 4 weeks total, with a week of orientation and getting ready and a few days of debriefing on the end.

Like the arabesque mosaics that decorate its buildings, Morocco’s Arabic and Islamic culture is an exotic mix of African, Bedouin, European, and Mediterranean influences that have melded together over thousands of years. You’ll catch the same fascinating mix of scents and fragrances at the doors of Moroccan homes and shops, owned by locals generous in their hospitality to wandering strangers. Relationships come easily in this North African culture with the Mediterranean feel, bonding in the classroom, over a cup of tea, or at a family celebration.

In 2014, Morocco’s Prime Minister announced that the country would switch from French to English as the primary language of instruction in higher education. Since that time, opportunities have been extended to ELIC to serve and teach in this beautiful and unique country that sits at the crossroads of Europe, Africa, and the Arab world.

Describe this new Short-Term Program.

Describe weekly schedule and hours breakdown for this program.

Volunteers work from Monday to Saturday from about 9-12, 2:30-5:30. They get a break at lunch and the evenings as well as Sunday.

Will there be outside the classroom activities for this program?

Yes.

Outings to the Medina and other nearby cool places.

What cultural outings will volunteers get to experience in Morocco?

Marinid Tombs, Fes Medina tour (with tannery trip), Day trip to Voulibulis to see Roman ruins.

How many students will each teacher have? How many different classes?

15-18 students, in just one class. There will be around 4 classes total in the program.

Will volunteers be teaching their own classes? Or will classes be jointly taught?

Volunteers will be teaching their own classes alongside a student intern to help them with classroom management.

How much classroom prep time is required/expected each week?

10 hours.

As with in Agadir, we hope, volunteers had the best CR opportunities with university student interns that they worked alongside with that will hopefully led to fruitful conversations with long-term OBP that continued after they left.

What does food and housing look like for this program?

The housing is very good and is in individual apartments shared two teachers of same gender to an apartment on campus with air conditioning. Lunches are negotiated with the program at the on campus cafeteria. Breakfasts and Dinners are prepared on their own.

What does in-country training look like for this program?

Orientation will be done most likely before the program in Tunisia. Then you will fly to Morocco. In Morocco for in country orientation, we usually go to a hotel with a pool and do some language and cultural preparation and talk about the program as well as tour the school in Morocco.

What does in-country debriefing look like for this program?

Debriefing will be done possibly together with the Tunisia teams in Tunisia, or by their team leader in Morocco together.

How is long-term vision being woven into this program?

This program supports our work at the school and helps build relationships with student interns and colleagues. We want our summer teachers to catch a vision of this kind of work and stay long term.

How does this program help sustain Pinnacle's existing long-term work?

We hope this program could build into the relationships with this school for our long-term teachers. And we hope work with these students will be ongoing. It strengthens our partnership and the buy in of the school to PInnacle as a whole.

Beyond program leaders, will volunteers interact with long-term Pinnacle teachers during this program?

Yes.

Volunteers will overlap at least one week with Fez leaders at their in-country orientation and we will make sure the program is running well. We want to be there to show them what work looks like in this area.

What is the length of this program? What are the estimated dates?

About four and a half weeks. With 1 week of orientation before the program, 3 weeks of teaching, and a few days of debrief after. Late June to Mid July.
